Bleys, Julian, Fiona, Random, and Corwin, of course, were my favorite Amberites (and Oberon, too) -- which, I know, is a lot of favorites, but they're all so... colorful. And, Bleys/Corwin = totally OTP, Y/N?
The Corwin Chronicles are my favorite of the two, by a lot, but there are definitely nice bits to the second chronicles as well (and I know some people who like the second chronicles as much or more than the first).
I thought they were awesome! I am already almost finished with the 7th book. Well, it took a while to pick up but the second book was really cool (Guns of Avalon) and it only got better.
What the hell, Caine is dead again XD and LOL, I kinda love Brand. He's grade A crazy. I swear, he's what you get when you mix up Rhaegar and Aerys.
I love them too! Julian is a bit of a bastard, but he's a funny one, I love how he pisses people off XD (and he's kinda hot as well). And Random is so awesome. So awesome, I totally cheered when he became king (and I like Martin too!) I actually didn't want to like Corwin but it couldn't be helped, he's badass. Haha, I also like Fiona and I'm really fond of Flora, she brings the lulz. Llewella is... random.
Oh, yes, Merlin/Luke = OTP! I just didn't think you'd gotten to them yet :) The "baby" line totally made me do a double-take, too, and there's a little Merlin/Luke moment towards the end that's a lot less blatant but appealed to me for personal reasons ('cos I'm a Berkeley alumna myself) I love Luke! He is by far my favorite (new) character in the second chronicles. And I'm generally a fan of Foe Yay (which is why I think Corwin/Eric would be kind of hot, too, if anybody actually wrote fic for the series...)
I'm so glad you like these books! The series definitely picked up for me during Guns of Avalon, and I loved all the twists from there. I was also kind of ambivalent towards Corwin at first, but he is such an unapologetic Gary-Stu, and yet he is capable of being an idiot, and he has a sense of humour about himself (I loved his conversation with "Ganelon" at his tomb), that it's really, really hard not to like him. I do like that Julian is an ass, but everyone's aware that he's an ass and treats him accordingly. And I thought Random became even more awesome when he became King, which was great. And Brand! You're so totally right about him being half Aerys/half Rhaegar XD (Also, I remember a friend of mine was talking about ships in the Amber-verse, and hit on the true OTP of the series -- Brand/rug). I have no idea what Llewella is even there for, and nobody else seems to either. I suspect it's some kind of cosmic joke on Zelazny's part, putting in a character who has no discernible personality or role in the plot.
Oh, and now you can do the polls that started my pimping of Amber to ASOIAF fans: here (if you want to, of course, or unless you'd rather wait until you're done with the whole thing. I only included Luke and Merlin from the second chronicle because otherwise the poll would've been too long. I do kind of like Mandor, from among the Chaosites.)

Yeah that was very... wait, what? WHY? (and, of course, Julian has a thing for Fiona, too...) At the same time, in canon, it's kind of understandable, since the Amberites are a breed apart, so, who else are they going to fall for? Sort of the Targ, "blood of Old Valyria" rationale... Except, of course, that Oberon's not cool with it (although, you know, you've got to wonder if the Zeus-like guy with half a dozen sequential wives and bastards all over the place assumes the moral high ground... XP)
Bleys is totally one of ours! (This is of course very awesome, Bleys is cool, though I think we see so little of him :() I couldn't pick between Lannister and Tyrell for Luke, but I'm probably biased, I want him in my house!
Merlin can join Corwin in Sparklypoo. He's not exactly as badass but he has so many powerful gadgets, and I won't be surprised if he gets more.

I didn't think Julian and Fiona was as bad as Deirdre and Corwin, either -- probably mostly 'cos Fiona is smoking hot (redheads are my favorites... except when they are crazy religious types like Mel, alas) and I can totally understand the attractiveness of someone like Julian. Whereas Corwin, for all his Sparklepoo glory, would drive me insane, and Deirdre was just barely less random than Llewella, I thought. So, I could understand the participants a lot more in the case of Julian/Fiona than Corwin/Deirdre.
I think Luke's probably a Lannister, but I'd love to have him in Tyrell, too, so, not gonna argue! (There seemed to be a lot of Lannister/Tyrell types in Amber, according to the poll sorting, which I think is awesome -- and probably partly explains why I love this series.)
'cos Fiona is smoking hot LOL, this reminds me. Everyone smokes. All the time. I remember reading somewhere that Zelazny would always have one of his characters smoking when he lit up a cigarette, but I had no idea it was this bad XD
