1. I've asked so many of you for the answers to this meme, I feel like I should do it too.

Comment, and I'll:
1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, a word etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
7. In return, you must can post this in your LJ.

2. I've been to quite a lot of cinema movies in the last couple of weeks. I saw Slumdog Millionaire, Che: The Argentine and Che: Guerrilla.

In which I review. Sort of. )

3. If you think I use the word LOL too many times... it's also because lol is an actual Dutch word. It means fun. Yeah.

4. Somebody ([livejournal.com profile] michaela0823) made this really awesome icon about Arthurian legend and [livejournal.com profile] misstopia mentioned how the Greek mythology loop would be much longer. I though: "Dude, I have to make one!" It only has the Greek gods, though. If you know what lines I could use for the Greek heroes, please help! (I'm thinking of Achilles, Odysseus, Ajax, Paris, Hector, Patroclus, Theseus, Perseus, Aeneas and others)
the Arthur one:||And mine:

5. I also made some snarky Shakespeare icons. I kinda want to use them but I think they're too snarky for me. But I can show them!

here are four others )

6. Thanks to TVTropes I read the SF short story I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. It won a Hugo award in 1968 and was written by Harlan Ellison (Also known for his groping incidents). Like the TVTropes page says, it's pure concentrated Nightmare Fuel (There's a link to the story on the TVTropes page. I want to share the pain). Even the title is creepy. D:

7. I never actually saw any programs by the Dutch Public Jewish Network, until today. It was just a kosher cooking show but I watched all of it because Jewish music is swanky and cool (it was background music, but still). And my mum watched it because she likes food.
Mother: "This reminds me, I should use more chickpeas."
Me: "Hell no!"
Mother: "You can't be Middle Eastern and not like chickpeas! It's just not done, girl."

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] liaku and [livejournal.com profile] ender839! :D

[livejournal.com profile] beatonna drew the Plantagenets! (from The Lion in Winter) Hee, I love her interpretation, especially Becket's expression and Eleanor's glare.

Meme one, unwillingly tagged by [livejournal.com profile] thedls_sword.
1) Comment to this and I will give you 3 fictional characters.
2) Post this meme with your answers.
3) Provide pictures and the names of 3 people.
4) Label which you would marry, shag, and throw off a cliff.

I got Jaime Lannister, Sandor Clegane and Littlefinger )

Meme two, tagged by [livejournal.com profile] hamsterwoman
1. Reply to this post, saying "pick me" or similar, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Back when I had to choose icons for my LJ I was in a real viola-mood. In case you didn't know, the viola is the most beautiful instrument evar and I play it (obviously). I just like the icon, it's very snappy and rather indicative of the attitude violists have ("Don't ignooore us!"). And I like the fact that the C clef is in the icon as well.

The other four icons )

Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] badalice on the westerosorting chat, I have now discovered fmylife.com. I've been laughing ever since. Oh the Schadenfreude.

Hell yeah!

Okay, so [livejournal.com profile] guad and her easter egg contest on [livejournal.com profile] westerosorting have driven me mad. Finding the eggs? 15 minutes. Solving them? Done, in a pretty short time. EXCEPT for one teeny tiny scrambled word. Ah well, guess I'm not the asoiaf nerd I though myself to be.

Anyway

YES, YES, MFing YES! Guess who got her three day apprenticeship with an eye medic on time? ME, HELL YEAH! I can also have a look in the surgeon room when he's operating. I actually believe my mother is more relieved about me succeeding than I am. XD

Anyway, those asoiaf quizzes. Well, I've done them both (and one was definitely better spelled than the other) and the results?

Tully and Tyrell )

Meme: Elemental Beauty )

Also, have been watching Kings, because I was curious to see what they would do with story of Saul and David (+ Jonathan).
Kings is a television drama series airing on NBC and Citytv, based on the Biblical story of King David in a kingdom that culturally and technologically resembles the present-day United States.

Spoilery thoughts )

Decided to try this out as well.

the meme

My violin teacher broke her right wrist! This is pretty much horrible. I feel really sorry for her, but also sorry for myself. I don't know what to think of the replacement violin teacher. She's so different. She keeps asking me questions and ends all her sentences with an inquisitive look and "Well?" These kind of people unnerve me, but I suppose change is necessary every once in a while.

Anyway, my little conversation with [livejournal.com profile] chisakami about the viola and viola jokes (Warning: like all musician jokes these are incredibly lame, though hilarious) led to me checking out Wikipedia to see what they've written about violas and how we're the buttmonkeys of every orchestra (We're like the Night's Watch, ignored, undermanned and very necessary :P) and I was dismayed to find out that they removed the viola jokes part! Only one measly mention on the Jokes page. Reading the Wiki Viola discussion page was a blast, though:

I have a psychology book somewhere (a quite serious one) that has something like half a chapter on the viola joke (mainly musing on why the viola and not some other useless instrument like the flute). And I see even Google is getting in on the act of slating violists now: if you search for "virtuoso violist" it mocks "Did you mean:virtuoso violinist"... --Camembert

I wonder if this is funny for people who are not musicians. I hope so )

Pro-violist POV edits. Seriously, violists? Never change. (I don't get the part about the neutrality though. It's simply a fact of life that musicians will make fun of the violas. Even the no-good second violins XD)

Tomorrow EHBO exam. After this I am qualified to save people's lives. Hell yeah! >:D
(ETA: Sorry there, EHBO is Dutch for First Aid)

Your result for The Sorting Hat Test...

Ravenclaw

You scored 66% Order/Chaos, and 35% Moral/Rational

and the reasons why )
Surprise, surprise. Ah well.

ALSO. I don't know, perhaps you already know of this webcomic and I'm the last one to know, but you should all check out Kate Beaton's comics lj, [livejournal.com profile] beatonna, it's seriously hilarious. She has a brilliant style (seriously, now I want to draw like her) and she makes a lot of historical comics, but also many other kinds of comics (See her Top Gun volleyball comic). She also has very interesting posts about quirky historical things (Like the Coronation of George IV and how Canada was portrayed in old newspaper comics) and just funny comics about her life.

Just a small selection of comics I think are utterly hilarious:
In Which Robin Hood Breaketh the Fourth Wall
Foundin Fathas
Mermaids, they be a sexy omen
Yeats in Love
This is for the Shakespeare fans
The discovery of Canada
Miyamoto Musashi is badass
Johan, this Mr. Darcy comic, you have to see it
Okay, I'll stop now, before I list all of them.

So... the new Doctor in Doctor Who has been announced and it's... Matt Smith. Never heard of him, but he's apparently the youngest Doctor-actor ever (26). Ah well, I hope he does okay, though it also depends on Steve Moffat, I suppose (but I think he's a better writer than Russel T Davies anyway). David Tennant has been a good Doctor even thought I definitely had my problems with the 10th Doctor and lost my interest in the end.
ETA: LOL at fandom_secrets for already making a 11th Doctor Wank!Bingo card. I should check out Fandom Wank tomorrow to see if anything happens.
ETA 2: The wankiness has already started! Hooooly shit.

I have only one New Year resolution this year: Make my teenage brother shave, dammit. He has this vague fuzz and it looks like he has dirt on his face. Here's an actual conversation today:
Brother's geek friend: *sees that brother has left for the toilet* When is he going to shave?
Me: Dude, you have no idea how much I tried.
B's GF: :(

So I already failed posting about something that makes me happy. Ah well.

Day Two in things that make me happy:
I like my uni and people in it. Just in general.
As for fannish stuff, I really like good (fan) art. I recently finished a Jeeves and Wooster book and I just had to check if Rule 34 is true. LOL, it is, Jeeves/Wooster fanart exists XD. Also, it's all cute and fluffy fanart, haha. In case you didn't know, these books are about a clueless British gent and his genius butler. Here's a very awesome fanartist who did this, this and this. She also did this pretty cool tired!House and coffeeproviding!Wilson fanart and this very swirly Samurai Champloo fanart. All art is worksafe.

Also, I have cracked. I'm going to watch Merlin even though I'm generally suspicious of Arthurian adaptations and even though the advertising gave me a BBC Robin Hood vibe (Robin Hood sucks). But, well, I can be pretty shallow and the actors are kind of hot. Also, people say it has some gay vibes? I'm down with that. Fanart that finally made me decide: this and (don't click this if you're at work and can't handle blood and homoeroticism) this. Ninjas of Camelot made me lol.

A. People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question. B. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

I got tagged twice, by etrangere and deeplyunhip, but I'm not tagging )

I wish I had that icon with the lemmings going over the cliff while shouting MEME.

List the first ten series that come to mind. Your friends will comment with the character from each series that they think you are most like. Remember this is who I'm most like, not favorites!
  1. A Song of Ice and Fire
  2. Harry Potter
  3. Sandman
  4. Watchmen
  5. The Tudors
  6. Fruits Basket
  7. Lord of the Rings
  8. Phoenix Wright/Ace Attourney
  9. Rome
  10. Does Greek Mythology count? Plz?

LOL Belgium

So, you probably don't know this but there's a lot of shit going down in the Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg). Basically the Belgians are all very angry about the fact that the Dutch government bought up all the Dutch Fortis assets to get Fortis out of trouble (Fortis is Belgium's pride bank, it got into a lot of trouble because they overdid themselves buying the biggest Dutch bank. And now there's all this with the recession.). All the Dutchies are gleeful. So this has pretty much developed into Dutch-Belgian pissing contest number 134252. And I know this is facetious but I can't help but LOL. You should see some of the headlines ("Great Belgian Bank Dead!" "The Dutch cheekily take over Fortis!")
Oh Belgium, I think there are some other things you should worry about (Seriously, almost two years and still no coalition? Geez). Me and my dad have a bet about how long it'll take till it splits into Flanders and Wallonia. Let me tell you, we're not optimistic.

Cut for that one meme. Tagged by deeplyunhip )

My personality type: the reliable realist

Am I surprised? Not really. I used to think that me and my parents were really idealistic (because of, y'know, them being pinkocommies) but then I realised that it's just what we want in theory. We know what to expect in real life.

Also. Eurosoccer. Ahahaha! So the Netherlands-Italy ended up in 3-0 (WTF?) and now, seriously the whole of Rotterdam is just happy. Like, really really happy. (It helps that the sun is shining). And ORANGE OMG. Seriously, all the streets are decked in so much orange, it hurts the eyes. O_O

Also, Netherlands-France is on my birthday. Woe. Now I'm sure nobody is going to remember it. :(

Edit: So now we can't even send money to Iran. Jesus, it's for my grandmother's rent, not for some terrorist. And plz, stupid bank, if you're not doing any deals with Iranian banks (and haven't done so in two years), at least have the smarts to put it on your site. Grah!
